Aftercamp Travel: WASHINGTON DC
The home of all things politics and history. This remarkable city is at the heart of the American government, and is where the president resides. Some of the most important world matters are discussed here and this is a stop for those interested in a more educational trip.
But, WAIT!
There is more to the city than politics and history, so don't let that put you off.
It is located in the district of Columbia, just by Maryland and Virginia.
The obvious spots to visit are the Capitol Building. An amazing building architecurally, but also a bulding with a wealth of history inside its doors. It is the home of the American congress.
The Lincoln Memorial is a must. Not just for the amazing statue of Lincoln, and the building surrounding it. Also for the National Mall which is right under it. This is one of the most breathtaking parts of the whole city, and is where a lot of the attractions are located.
Aside form the obvious museums, one of the best museums in the city is the NEWSEUM. This interactive museum for all things news, free speech, and freedom of the press. It's exhibits are incredibly thought provoking, and immersive. This won't be a quick pit stop on your visit, but it will be one of the best.
You can't visit DC and not go to the White House. However, in person this is a bit disappointing as you cannot get very close to it. So, don't hold out for saying hello to the president!
Aside from the history and politics, head down to the Nationals Park and watch a baseball game. Get an authentic tshirt and hot dog, and take in some real American culture to finish off your trip.
